The Invitation

In a world of constant doing, achieving, optimizing - what happens when we stop? When we return to the basic art of simply being with what is?

Join us for Back to Basic - a 5-day retreat in nature where we explore simplicity, presence, and the quiet joy of existing without agenda. No schedules to keep. No goals to achieve. No distractions allowed. Just being with ourselves, each other, and the world as it presents itself.

What Happens

We gather in a simple location - perhaps a cabin in the woods, a quiet farmhouse, or a secluded spot that serves the retreat. We leave technology behind (except what's needed for essential connection).

The days unfold organically:

  • Morning meditation and simple movement
  • Time in nature - walking, sitting, listening
  • Shared meals prepared together
  • Conversations that emerge from presence
  • Evening gatherings around fire or quiet reflection
  • Sleep and silence as needed

There's no curriculum. No workshops. No teachings. Just the space for what wants to emerge when we stop trying so hard.

Who This Is For

This retreat is for you if:

  • You're tired of the constant push to do more, be more
  • You want to experience true rest and presence
  • You're curious about what emerges in silence
  • You value simplicity and want to practice it deeply
  • You're ready to be with others without the usual social performances
  • You want to remember what it feels like to just be

What You Need

  • Willingness to be offline for the duration
  • Comfort with silence and unstructured time
  • Openness to simple living (basic accommodations, shared spaces)
  • A phone for emergencies only
  • Whatever personal items support your comfort in simplicity

How to Join

This journey happens once a year when the season calls for it. Currently in maintenance mode - planning begins when interest emerges.

If this calls to you, reach out through the contact page. Tell me:

  • What draws you to this kind of retreat
  • What you're hoping to discover or release
  • Your experience with silent retreats or similar practices

When we have a small group (6-10 people), we'll begin planning - finding the location, setting the dates, arranging the simple logistics.

The Philosophy

Back to Basic is deep maintenance mode - returning to the fundamentals of being human. Not spiritual bypassing. Not personal development. Just the radical act of stopping the endless motion and seeing what remains.

We practice the art of enjoying what is - the breeze, the meal, the conversation, the silence. We discover that presence is both simpler and more profound than we imagine.

The retreat serves those who need it. When the time is right, it emerges. Until then, it waits in quiet readiness.
